Nghe An: Simultaneously injecting over 50,000 doses of lumpy skin disease vaccine for buffaloes and cows

Districts are given a number ofVaccineThe most include: Thanh Chuong (9,300 doses), Anh Son (6,000 doses), Do Luong (5,000 doses), Nghi Loc (3,200 doses)... These are localities with large herds of buffalo and cows, with a high risk of disease spread.

Currently, veterinary forces in localities arevaccinationsimultaneously for buffalo and cow herds, especially priority for communes with epidemics to limit widespread spread.

However, with a total herd of 750,000 buffaloes and cows in the province, the current number of vaccines can only meet a very small part of the demand. The reason is that this is a new type of vaccine, which must be imported from abroad (Türkiye), so the amount of vaccines nationwide in general and Nghe An in particular is not much.

In addition, due to the lack of veterinary facilities, vaccination against lumpy skin disease in cattle and buffaloes is also difficult. In some localities, veterinary staff from the District Agricultural Service Center must go directly to the communes to vaccinate. Some communes must contract with the old veterinary staff to keep up with the vaccination schedule.

Given the complicated developments of the epidemicLumpy skin diseaseIn buffalo and cows, authorities recommend that breeders urgently register for lumpy skin disease vaccination and purchase specific insecticides (mosquitoes, ticks, gnats, etc.). These are two optimal methods that can prevent epidemics.

In addition, local authorities need to strictly control the transportation and slaughter of buffaloes and cows in epidemic areas and threatened epidemic areas; strictly handle cases of selling sick and dead buffaloes and cows; slaughter sick and dead buffaloes and cows according to the provisions of law.

Currently, the disease has spread widely in 17/21 localities, with only 4 districts where the disease has not appeared: Tuong Duong, Ky Son, Con Cuong and Yen Thanh. The total number of infected buffaloes and cows is 668 in 481 households. The number of buffaloes and cows that died and had to be destroyed was 26, with a total weight of 3.3 tons.
