On the afternoon of April 5, after the National Assembly Standing Committee reported to the National Assembly the results of the discussion at the Delegation on the expected personnel to elect the Prime Minister, the delegates approved the list and conducted a secret ballot to elect a replacement for comrade Nguyen Xuan Phuc - who was dismissed from the position of Prime Minister and elected as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The results of the vote just announced show that Comrade Pham Minh Chinh - Politburo member, Head of the Central Organizing Committee has been elected by the National Assembly to hold the position of Prime Minister. The resolution on the election of the position has also been passed by the National Assembly with 462/466 delegates present in favor (accounting for 96.25% of the total number of National Assembly delegates).

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh was born in 1958. Hometown: Hoa Loc Commune, Hau Loc District, Thanh Hoa Province. Member of the 12th and 13th Politburo; Secretary of the 12th Party Central Committee; Member of the 11th, 12th and 13th Party Central Committee; Delegate of the 14th National Assembly.
