Faced with the recent increase in tensions in relations between Russia and the US, Russian President's press secretary D. Peskov announced on April 8 that Moscow is ready for the worst-case scenarios in relations with Washington.

Responding to reporters, Russian President's press secretary D. Peskov stressed that the hostility and unpredictability of the US's actions force Russia to prepare for the worst. He said that the US is artificially restricting economic and scientific cooperation with Russia, which is damaging relations between the two countries. According to him, unpredictability still exists in contacts between Moscow and Washington and "this is very bad".

Earlier, also yesterday, speaking at a press conference on the results of talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tleuberdi during his visit to this country, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Moscow would react to any unfriendly steps by the US. He also criticized Washington for pushing the relationship between the two countries into a dead end and emphasized that the goals set by the US when imposing sanctions on Russia are unachievable. This situation has been repeated many times.

“These actions only convince us that we have to rely on ourselves, because neither the United States nor its allies are reliable partners,” Minister Lavrov said.

Relations between Moscow and Washington have worsened since last month, after US President Joe Biden made harsh accusations against Russian President Vladimir Putin. Russia recalled its ambassador to the US to Moscow for consultations on further steps in relations with Washington.

While tensions between the two sides have not cooled down, the US recently announced that it will continue to support Kiev in maintaining its "sovereignty and territorial integrity". The US side considers information received from Kiev about the movement of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border as a "provocative act" and demands an explanation from Moscow. For its part, Moscow emphasized that the movement of Russian troops on its territory should not cause concern to other countries, because the Russian Federation does not pose a threat to other countries, including Ukraine./.
