Renovating Vinh River has been the desire not only of Vinh city for many years but also of Nghe An province to bring Vinh River to its position, becoming an area with beautiful landscape, an important ecological area in the southwest of the city.

Project "Priority infrastructure and urban development adapting to climate change in Vinh city, Nghe An province"The Prime Minister recently approved the proposal in early 2021, with 4 components funded by the World Bank, of which component 3 prioritizes upgrading the Vinh River.

This component will implement the “drainage” part of the adaptation strategy by enhancing drainage capacity into rivers, improving riverbank protection, and supporting environmental remediation to reduce the amount of wastewater discharged directly into rivers.

Vinh River Upgrade Subcomponentwill rehabilitate this river from its confluence with the Ke Gai River to Bara Ben Thuy, in the west of the city. This section of the river is the main drainage axis for the city’s two most important basins with a total area of ​​over 4,300 hectares. Activities will include dredging and improving the river embankment to ensure it is combined with the construction of an inter-culvert to collect wastewater currently discharged directly into the river, linked to drainage and environmental sanitation activities.

This investment will significantly improve the environmental conditions of the Vinh River and allow both sides of the river to become green public spaces for city residents and tourists, based on the inherent historical and cultural values ​​of the river.

Vinh River will have embankments built along both banks. Upgrade and renovate management roads along both banks of the river, build bridges connecting the two banks of the river at the Vinh - Ke Gai river junction.

The project will build a synchronous technical infrastructure system including: Rainwater drainage system, sewer system and transfer pumping station to collect wastewater to the wastewater treatment plant, lighting system and other infrastructure systems; Building landscape, green trees and walking paths along both sides of the river.

After investing in river renovation and environmental improvement, the quality of land adjacent to the riverbank will be significantly improved. Public space will be invested and protected. The goal is to develop Vinh River as ahistorical siteof the city, with an eco-village, heritage intersection, market link, new urban area connected by extended Le Mao road.

Currently, there are Den Bridge, Tan Phuong Bridge, Tung Binh Bridge, Cua Tien 1 Bridge, Cua Tien 2 Bridge and the Railway Bridge across the Vinh River. Of these, Tung Binh Bridge will be renovated and its surface area will be expanded; Den Bridge will be repaired.

The city will also invest in building two large bridges across the Vinh River during the implementation of the two extended Le Mao and Tran Hung Dao routes connecting to the Lam River road.

Along with the investment in the construction of the extended Le Mao road, the renovation and upgrading of Vinh river will create a green, modern space for Vinh city, while connecting many historical relics and scenic spots in the area.
