(Baonghean.vn) - Initial assessment is that after killing his wife, Mr. Tam used a knife to stab himself in the stomach, then tied his legs with a rope and threw himself into the well.

Mourning in the poor neighborhood

On April 15, neighbors and relatives completed the burial of Thai Ba Tam (49 years old) and his wife Nguyen Thi Dai (45 years old, residing in Doi Cung 1 hamlet, Ky Son commune, Tan Ky). Although no autopsy was performed (at the request of relatives), Nghe An Provincial Police determined that the case did not show signs of crime but may have been due to the husband's paranoia and depression.tragedy.

Brought to her uncle's house for treatment due to psychological trauma, Thai Thi Duyen - 18 years old, the eldest daughter of Mr. Tam and Ms. Dai is still not fully conscious. Classmates and neighbors gathered around the bed to wait for Duyen to wake up. But this morning, when she opened her eyes, the naive student still did not understand what was happening to her family. She kept asking her friends "what is going on".

Xom Doi Cung 1 is located on the road through the communes of Western Nghe An. This is a poor countryside, most of the people have to go everywhere to work for hire because the land of their homeland is barren. Like many others in this poor village, 3 years ago, Duyen's father mortgaged his land use right to get travel expenses to go to Africa to work as a bricklayer. In early 2021, Tam returned home after completing the Covid-19 quarantine.

Mr. Thai Ba Hung - Mr. Tam's brother said that since returning from abroad, Mr. Tam has shown signs of depression and mental instability. When he went to Tan Ky hospital, the doctors advised him to stay for treatment, but because he was afraid of the cost, Mr. Tam returned home for treatment. Recently, his illness began to get worse. Tam often got up to rummage through his belongings in the middle of the night, mumbled nonsense, was mentally insecure, often had unreasonable fears, and always carried a knife at his side because he was "afraid that someone would threaten to kill him."

At around 11:30 a.m. on April 13, when the eldest daughter returned home from school, she saw her mother lying motionless in a pool of blood. She ran to call her father but couldn't find him. When Duyen went to the well, she saw her father hanging a noose around his legs, and blood was all over the well.

Duyen panicked, hugged her mother tightly and screamed in despair, blood spread all over her 18 year old school uniform. When the neighbors came by, it was too late. A small family that was peaceful and had never raised their voice to the neighbors had fallen into tragedy, leaving everyone shocked and without answers.

Duyen still lies in bed 2 days after losing her parents. The severe shock has made her crazy and temporarily lost her memory. She is fed milk by her friends, who tell her funny stories about her friends and about the two days of school that Duyen was absent from.

“Why can’t I call my mom? And she didn’t call me either. I’m so worried! I don’t know where I left my phone and I can’t remember it anymore,” Duyen said while drinking milk and laughing innocently.

A sudden cry broke out, a friend next to her could not hold back and jumped up, pulled the door open and walked out crying. No one dared to tell the truth for fear that the girl would go crazy. “Duyen is an introvert and very affectionate towards her mother. I am afraid that after this shock she will not be able to overcome it,” said Thai Thi Yen - Duyen’s cousin.

Tragedy upon tragedy

When the heartbreaking story happened to Mr. Tam, Ms. Dai and their two school-age children, many people who knew Mr. Tam's situation couldn't help but feel sorry for the man who had a life of hardship and ups and downs. Mr. Tam was the youngest child in a family of 7 children, in 1999 this man of many sufferings also once suffered the pain of heaven.

At that time, while crossing the Con River with villagers to plant corn, the fateful boat turned around on the rapids and sank. Mr. Tam's wife was one of the three victims. More tragically, when she died, this woman was 6 months pregnant.

But the tragedy did not stop there. Two years after his first wife passed away, his son - the child of his wife and him - also contracted encephalitis and followed his mother. The pain reached the heavens. Tam lived alone in the world, using time as a medicine to help him through the long pain.

In 2002, Mr. Tam was introduced by an acquaintance to Ms. Nguyen Thi Dai - a country girl in Dai Son commune, Do Luong district. After many events, the new family helped Mr. Tam calm down. The couple lived with their elderly parents in Doi Cung 2 hamlet, Ky Son commune (Tan Ky), and had two children, Thai Thi Duyen (born in 2003) and Thai Ba Nam (born in 2004, currently an 11th grade student at Tan Ky High School).

Mr. Thai Ba Thu - Mr. Tam's brother said that in early 2020, while still working in Africa, while dismantling scaffolding at a construction site, Mr. Tam was hit in the head by falling concrete and had to get 20 stitches. The accident damaged his brain, but because he thought he would have no money if he returned home, he endured the pain and stayed to work.

In mid-November 2020, Mr. Tam received bad news from his family: his father suddenly passed away after a severe cold. Due to his unstable mental state and signs of panic, Mr. Tam was advised by his family to stay and wait for the Covid-19 epidemic to stabilize before flying back. In early 2021, after the required quarantine period, Mr. Tam returned home to receive treatment and live with his wife and children. The 3 years of wandering abroad were not enough to pay off all his debts, and now his family is even more worried because of his after-effects from the accident, and his biological father has just passed away, so the house seems even more gloomy.

“That fateful morning, Dai called me and told me that Tam was holding a knife, threatening to slash everyone, screaming and running around the garden, destroying things. I was so scared that I told Dai to run away from home to take refuge and wait for him to come back. A while later, Dai called back and said Tam had calmed down and could take him to the hospital at another time. Unexpectedly, at nearly 12 noon, Duyen called to say that both parents had died,” Tam’s brother, Thai Ba Hung, said in pain.

Tam and his wife passed away, leaving behind two bewildered children before their time to enter adulthood. The already difficult family now has to bear three mourning bands, including Tam, Dai and Tam's father. The days ahead will be longer than any hardship when Duyen will regain consciousness and face the truth. Nam - Duyen's younger brother, although he is showing great strength, perhaps he is not mature enough to know what awaits him ahead. "I will not stay with my uncles, nor will I go anywhere, but will stay here to take care of the altar for my grandfather, father and mother. My two sisters will quit school to find work and earn a living," Nam said.
