(Baonghean.vn) - Although the lumpy skin disease epidemic in cattle is complicated, the vaccination rate in Nghe An is low, making it difficult to control the spread of the disease.

As of May 5, the provinceNghe AnThere have been 262 outbreaks of lumpy skin disease (LSD) in cattle in 19 districts, cities and towns, with 4,627 infected cattle. Currently, there are 111 outbreaks in 15 districts that have not passed 21 days; the mortality rate of infected cattle is high in calves under 2 months old and crossbred cattle and calves.

The total number of dead livestock was 649, including 3 buffaloes, 180 cows, 466 calves, with a total destroyed weight of over 100 tons.

Faced with the complicated developments of the epidemic, localities in the area have proactively implemented solutions to prevent and control ASF in cattle, in which the optimal solution isvaccination. But currently the number of buffaloes and cows vaccinated with VDNC vaccine in the whole province accounts for only 30.83% of the total herd (only 228,000 doses of vaccine out of a total of over 700,000 heads). This is a very low number, not meeting the conditions to protect livestock.

Localities with low vaccination rates include Ky Son, Tuong Duong, Nghi Loc, and Quy Chau. In particular, the two districts of Ky Son and Tuong Duong, although having a total herd of up to 100,000 animals, only 2,600 cattle have been vaccinated.

According to the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the low vaccination rate is due to the fact that the propaganda work for people to understand and implement vaccination at the facility has not been regular and extensive; livestock breeders have not been proactive in vaccination work; some self-employed veterinarians deliberately hide the epidemic to treat; and the authorities of some communes have not directed strongly in the work of vaccinating cattle with VDNC vaccine.

Faced with the complicated developments of the epidemic, the People's Committee of Nghe An province issued urgent dispatch No. 15/CD-UBND dated May 4, 2021 on urgently implementing solutions to prevent lumpy skin disease in cattle and African swine fever in the province.

Accordingly, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Departments, branches, sectors, and local authorities to mobilize the entire political system to participate, concentrate resources to resolutely and synchronously deploy solutions.epidemic prevention, do not let the epidemic prolong, spread and cause new outbreaks...

Localities establish rapid response teams to regularly inspect, detect and strictly handle cases of illegal transportation of animals and animal products, dumping of dead cows, buffaloes, and pigs into the environment; immediately destroy dead cows, buffaloes, and pigs to avoid environmental pollution and disease spread. Districts that are negligent and irresponsible, allowing the disease to spread widely, allowing people to dump dead animals into the environment, the Chairman of the People's Committee of that district will be criticized andin charge ofbefore the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
