Evening of May 17: 117 more positive cases; more than 400 patients 'with severe prognosis'

On the afternoon of May 17, the Ministry of Health recorded 117 positive cases of nCoV, of which 116 cases were recorded domestically, all in quarantine and lockdown areas.
117 new cases were recorded from number 4243 to 4359. Of which, 116 cases were recorded domestically in Bac Giang (61), Bac Ninh (38), Da Nang (7), Hanoi (5), Phu Tho (2), Hung Yen (2), Vinh Phuc (1). Thus, on May 17, the Ministry of Health recorded 181 domestic cases.

The total number of infections nationwide since the beginning of the epidemic is 4,242, the number of recoveries is 2,668, the number of deaths is 37. The number of samples tested from April 29 to now is 482,900.

Of the more than 1,400 Covid-19 patients being treated at more than 60 medical facilities nationwide, there are 449 severe cases, 4 severe cases requiring non-invasive mechanical ventilation, 32 severe cases requiring oxygen, 16 critical cases with 2 requiring ECMO intervention, and 1 case with a fatal prognosis at the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

According to the national vaccination program, on May 16, 2,206 more people were vaccinated against Covid-19. To date, a total of 979,238 people have been vaccinated nationwide. Of these, 22,561 have received two doses.

According to the Vietnam Public Health Emergency Operations Center, the world has recorded more than 163 million Covid-19 cases, of which more than 3.3 million people have died. The US ranks first in the number of cases, followed by India and Brazil.
