China on June 13 sent a warning to leaders of the G7 bloc that the era of "small countries" deciding the fate of the world is long gone.

According to Reuters news agency, the move is in response to the leadershipG7 blocare united in their decision to respond to China's position.

“The era of global decisions being made by a small group of countries is long gone,” said a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in London. “We have always believed that countries, big or small, strong or weak, rich or poor, are equal, and world issues should be resolved through consultation with all countries.”

China's rising status as a leading world power is seen as one of the key issues at this year's G7 meeting, according to Reuters.

The leaders of the United States, Canada, Britain, Germany, Italy, France and Japan want to use the meeting at the Caribbean Bay resort in southwest England to show the world that these countries can still find a solution to counter China's growing influence.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau led a G7 discussion on China on June 12, calling on leaders to come up with a unified approach to the challenges posed by Beijing, sources said.

Meanwhile, a senior official in the administration of US President Joe Biden said the G7 bloc will seek to compete with China's Belt and Road initiative with an infrastructure support plan for developing countries around the world.

For its part, China has repeatedly protested what it sees as attempts by Western powers to contain it, claiming that many powers are still trapped by “outdated imperialist thinking.”
