(Baonghean.vn) - Luong Thi Tinh sold two girls to Chinese men three times to marry. Tinh's crimes were only exposed when the victims fled back to their country and filed a complaint.

On June 16, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Luong Thi Tinh (born 1981), residing in Tam Dinh commune, Tuong Duong district, for the crime of "Human trafficking".

According to the case file, due to lack of stable jobs, two girls, Vi Thi May H. (born in 1996) and Quang Thi C. (born in 1995), both residing in Xa Luong commune, Tuong Duong district, decided to go to work far away to earn money. Around October 2016, one of the two girls contacted a woman named Xen Thi Hong (who was in China at the time) to discuss the matter of sending people to work.

At this time, Hong contacted Luong Thi Tinh about taking two girls to China to sell as wives and asked for a salary of 30,000 NDT, Tinh agreed. Not long after, the two girls took a bus to Mong Cai, then were guided by Hong's people to China through an illegal route.

In a foreign land, Hong just told the two girls that they had toto be a wifeThey had to send money home, otherwise they would have to pay double the travel expenses. Because they were in China and did not know the way or the language, the two girls had to agree.

About a week later, a man came to see her and chose to buy Ms. H. to be his wife for 60,000 NDT (equivalent to 180 million VND) with terms and conditions. Ms. H. had been married for 3 days when her husband's family discovered she was using birth control pills and sent her back. Tinh had to pay 64,000 NDT in compensation for breach of contract.

About a month later, Tinh sold Ms. C. to a man for 65,000 NDT. However, after living with her for a month, Ms. C. ran away, so Tinh and his accomplices had to pay 64,000 NDT in compensation.

In December 2016, Tinh continued to sell Ms. H. to another man for 45,000 NDT. With that amount, Ms. H. received 60 million VND to send to her family, Tinh received 18 million VND, and Hong received the remaining amount.

In early 2019, Ms. H. fled back to Vietnam. On December 9, 2020, this victim filed a complaint against Luong Thi Tinh with the police.

At the trial, the defendant admitted to human trafficking. The defendant presented his difficult circumstances, currently raising a young child, to ask for a lighter sentence.

Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced Luong Thi Tinh to 6 years and 6 months in prison for human trafficking. As for Xen Thi Hong, because she is in China, there is no basis for prosecution.
