How do universities assess the 2021 benchmark scores?
Many universities believe that with the 2021 High School Graduation Exam questions and the admission plans announced by the schools, university admission scores will increase sharply, with some majors even increasing by 3.5 points compared to last year.
The exam is completely suitable for university admission.
Associate Professor Bui Hoai Thang - Head of Training Department, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, said that the most accurate prediction of results is after the Ministry of Education and Training announces the exam scores and score distribution. However, with the exam questionshigh school graduateThis year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and other universities can use the results for admission.
"The exam is enough to evaluate the 12th grade graduation and has good classification questions. Although the English exam is said to be easy, that is the general level, and the classification questions are still very difficult. I dare not say, but this year's score distribution will probably be good and maybe like last year," said Mr. Thang.

"Up to now, I still predict that this year's benchmark will be about the same as last year and will not fluctuate much because it will depend on the quota for this method and the shift of learners. In the past two years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, candidates have shifted their choice of study location, prioritizing studying in areas that are easy, safe, and close to home rather than in difficult areas, with epidemics, and high prices..." - Associate Professor Thang analyzed.
Master Phung Quan, Head of Information and Communication Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Science, said that admission is based on taking scores from high to low, until the quota is met. Specifically, there are 1 million students taking the exam but the universities recruiting more than 500,000 candidates, so no matter what the exam is, only the top 500,000 students will be admitted.
University benchmarks could increase by up to 3.5 points
Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, predicted that the benchmark score based on graduation exam scores this year will increase compared to 2020, but the increase is not significant.
Mr. Nhan said that the benchmark scores of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry in 2021 in the majors of Business Administration, Marketing, and Information Technology may increase by 0.5 to 1 point. The benchmark scores for the remaining majors are similar to those of 2020.

In 2020, the benchmark score of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Business Administration major is 22.75; the benchmark score of Marketing major is 24.5; the benchmark score of Information Technology major is 23. Besides, some majors of this school have a benchmark score of 23 points such as Economic Law, Automotive Technology, Data Science... Many majors have benchmark scores of 17 - 20 points.
For general majors, Mr. Nhan predicts that like in 2020, the Medicine-Pharmaceutical and Security sectors will have scores of 25 points or more, even up to 27 points. The benchmark score for 2021 for technical majors ranges from 20-25 points, with majors such as Information Technology and Automotive Technology being the highest. The benchmark scores for economic majors such as Business Administration and Logistics will be high...
Master Pham Thai Son, Director of Admissions at Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry, said that with this exam and this year's admission situation, the benchmark score will be higher than last year.
The reason for the increase in the 2021 benchmark score, according to Mr. Son, is that the admission quota based on high school graduation exams has decreased significantly compared to last year. Many universities have 5-6 admission methods, of which the admission quota based on academic records accounts for about 60% or 70% of the total quota. Therefore, the number of admission quotas based on graduation exam scores is no longer large.

Mr. Son predicts that compared to last year, the admission scores for all groups will increase from 0.5 to 3.5 points. In particular, the admission scores for groups A00 and D01 will increase the most in majors such as Information Technology, Business Administration, Accounting, International Business, Marketing, etc.
The benchmark score for block B00 can increase from 0.5 points to 2.5 points for majors such as General Medicine, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, etc. The benchmark score for block C00 can increase from 1 point to 3 points for majors such as Journalism, Law, Tourism, etc.
At the University of Natural Sciences in Ho Chi Minh City, Master Phung Quan analyzed that in 2021, the University of Natural Sciences recruited 3,530 students with 6 methods. Of which, the 2 methods with the most quotas are admission based on the results of the competency assessment exam organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University (30% - 60% of the quota by major/group of majors) and admission based on the results of the 2021 High School Graduation Exam from 15% - 55% of the quota by major/group of majors. Thus, the quota based on the graduation exam scores is only about 1,155.

Observing the trend of admission to the school in the past 3 years, Mr. Quan said that most candidates focus on technical and technological majors such as Information Technology, Data Science, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, while Science majors are less interested.
For this reason, according to Mr. Quan, the 2021 university admission scores will be high and very high in the groups of Information Technology, Data Science, Biotechnology, Chemistry, and Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering. The remaining groups will only be equal to or slightly higher than the quality assurance threshold.
For the general group, Mr. Quan predicts that the benchmark score will also increase compared to 2020, but the increase will mainly be in the majors that attract candidates such as Finance, Economics, Journalism and Communications, and Information Technology. The benchmark scores for other majors will also increase, but the increase will not be much.
