Germans angry over US stance on Nord Stream 2
Readers of the German magazine Der Spiegel commented on the results of the talks between US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Washington, which touched on the topic of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
At a press conference after the talks, Chancellor Merkel told the press that she discussed the Nord Stream 2 project with the US President in the context of relations with Russia and Ukraine. The German Chancellor stressed that the positions of Germany and the United States on this project are different. She added: Ukraine should remain a transit country for Russian gas.

As Der Spiegel writes, the partners failed to reach a consensus on the assessment of the gas pipeline. At the same time, in the United States there has been opposition to Nord Stream 2 for many years, which affects all parties, the newspaper reminds.
The article elicited positive responses from readers.
"It is clear that the United States is interested in supplying its liquefied gas. Transported by tankers. Therefore, the convenient gas pipeline from Russia is like an 'eyesore' for them. It is not clear how reliable the US partner is: under Trump, various tariffs were discussed and applied to promote US interests. And under Biden, none of this has been canceled. There are no such direct threats and attacks from Russia," wrote user Supergrobi.
“As for the reliability of Russia as a supplier: since the 70s, we have been buying gas from the Russians, all starting from the height of the Cold War. And even then, we heard the same lamentations from the American side: they say, do not buy from the Russians, Russia will use this as a means of pressure. For more than 50 years, since then, there have been no problems. It is understandable that the behavior of the Russians may change in the future, but this applies to everyone else,” Out commented.
"Biden gets this wrong: Nord Stream 2 doesn't make us more dependent on Russia, it makes us more independent from Ukraine," Maurice wrote.
