The United States supports a strong, independent, and prosperous Vietnam.
On August 25, at the Presidential Palace, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan hosted a welcoming ceremony for US Vice President Kamala Harris. Ms. Kamala Harris is the first incumbent US Vice President to visit Vietnam.
At the meeting, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan congratulated Ms. Kamala Harris on being elected as the first female Vice President of the United States; highly appreciated the important significance of the visit, contributing to promoting Vietnam - US relations in particular and the US's cooperation with countries in the region in general.
The Vice President affirmed that Vietnam persistently implements a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, proactiveness, activeness, comprehensive, deep and effective international integration; is a good friend, a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community.

The Vice President emphasized that one of Vietnam's priorities is to promote and deepen bilateral relations with friendly countries and important partners, including the United States - one of the top important partners.
Accordingly, the Vice President assessed that the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Partnership is increasingly developing substantially and effectively in the fields of bilateral, regional and global cooperation.
On this occasion, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan also thanked the Government and people of the United States for their practical and timely support for Vietnam in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic in recent times.
Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her joy at her visit to Vietnam, sharing that the relationship between the United States and Vietnam has gone through a long process to achieve the results it has today.
Vice President Kamala Harris reaffirmed the United States' support for a strong, independent, and prosperous Vietnam, and its importance to the Comprehensive Partnership with Vietnam, based on the principles of respecting each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political institutions, and its strong commitment to continuing to promote increasingly deep, stable, and solid relations in the coming time.
Discussing measures to promote bilateral relations in a number of important areas such as health, education, and post-Covid-19 pandemic recovery, the Vice President affirmed that Vietnam always strives to promote gender equality, protect and care for children, and implement social security policies for vulnerable groups in society.
The Vice President thanked the US Government for funding projects to increase women's participation opportunities as well as programs to support vulnerable groups.
The Vice President also highly appreciated the cooperation in education, training and human resource development between the two countries, and welcomed the arrival of American volunteers to Vietnam to teach English soon.
On this occasion, the Vice President asked the US Government to continue creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in the US to work, live, develop and become an effective bridge to bring Vietnam - US relations closer.
The Vice President also affirmed that Vietnam will always pay attention to and create favorable conditions for US citizens, businesses, and organizations to travel, study, research, and invest in Vietnam.
