(Baonghean.vn) - These days, shrimp farmers in Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) are urgently cleaning ponds and preparing materials and quality seeds to enter the 2021 autumn-winter shrimp farming season.

Mr. Ho Van Duc, hamlet 12, Quynh Thanh commune said: In the second crop, his family released the breedwhite leg shrimpon an area of 2,000 m2, the output reached more than 1 ton, with a value of over 70 million VND. Determining that the autumn-winter shrimp crop often has high economic value, so immediately after completing the second shrimp harvest, he quickly drained the water and washed away the mud and impurities at the bottom of the pond with a tarp. At the same time, he added lime and phosphate powder to the pond to increase alkalinity, pH, remove alum in soil and water, and disinfect the banks and bottom of the pond.

In addition, Mr. Duc is also replacing torn tarpaulins and checking the oxygen fan system in the pond. In a few days, his family will release 100,000 to 150,000 whiteleg shrimp.

The entire Quynh Thanh commune has 75 hectares of industrial shrimp farming, 10 hectares of extensive brackish water shrimp farming and 5 hectares of extensive black tiger shrimp farming. Previously, Quynh Thanh only had 10 - 15 hectares with adequate infrastructure conditions forrelease shrimp in autumn and winterand 100% of the area has high economic value. This crop has the advantage of low input costs, less polluted farming environment, less disease, easy to sell products, higher price than the main crop from 70 - 90 thousand VND/kg.

Therefore, this year's autumn-winter crop, the commune has recommended that farmers release shrimp on 50% of the total area. Currently, households are actively treating the environment; using molasses, probiotics, and powdered phosphate to color the water to create beneficial algae, limiting the occurrence of diseases in shrimp.

Mr. Ho Xuan Xuyen - Chairman of Quynh Thanh Commune People's Committee said: The Commune People's Committee directed shrimp farming households to finish the first crop, those who have the conditions can raise the second crop, otherwise, they should stop and carry out pond treatment procedures to remove all harmful substances to raise the autumn-winter crop. The autumn-winter crop costs only about 30-40% compared to the main crop, because in winter, shrimp eat less, other chemicals are used less, so the input cost is low.

In Quynh Bang commune, with a total area of 186 hectares for shrimp farming, the locality will only stock nearly 50 hectares in the upcoming autumn-winter crop. The commune recommends that people who have the conditions to stock shrimp in the upcoming crop must build a solid concrete pond foundation and bank, fully equipped with a water fan and oxygen system. At the same time, cover the bank to avoid cases where there are storms and floods, and insects and animals fall into the pond; stretch nets over the pond surface to create humidity for the shrimp farming area in cold weather.

In addition, the locality also reminded people to effectively manage the farming environment, treat the input water well and choose quality shrimp. Currently, the whole commune has built nearly 2 hectares of shrimp farming in cement tanks to raise shrimp over winter.

Mr. Hoang Quang Dung - Agricultural officer of Quynh Bang commune said: Right from the beginning of the year, the commune has built a plan for shrimp farming and divided it into stages, stage 1, stage 2 and autumn-winter stage. For the autumn-winter season, it is recommended that establishments that ensure the factors according to regulations are allowed to raise shrimp, while households that do not ensure this are not allowed to raise shrimp, to avoid economic losses.

This autumn-winter crop, Quynh Luu district plans to release 1 billion white-leg shrimp fry on an area of nearly 100 hectares. The shrimp release period starts from September 1 to October 30. The district is directing people to release white-leg shrimp at a density of 70-120 shrimp/m2 to ensure the survival rate and growth rate of the livestock.

The district requires shrimp farmers to ensure that the pond embankment system is higher than the annual flood level, the barrier system is good, and the drainage is stable. At the same time, they must actively apply scientific and technical advances, and raise shrimp in many stages using Semi Biofoloc technology. In addition, farmers need to regularly monitor the environment periodically in aquaculture areas of the competent authorities to have measures to collect and treat water safely. During the farming process, when shrimp show abnormal signs or are suspected of being sick, farmers must immediately notify the competent authorities to take samples for timely testing.

Mr. Bui Xuan Truc - Deputy Head of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district

Of the total 465 hectares of shrimp farming in Quynh Luu district, only nearly 100 hectares have sufficient infrastructure conditions for autumn-winter shrimp farming. Each year, the average autumn-winter crop output reaches over 300 tons, with a value of 6 billion VND. Promoting the achieved results, people are actively preparing for a new farming season to be a complete success./.
