Nghe An: Operating and regulating reservoirs to ensure safety during the flood season
(Baonghean.vn) - The impact of the recent storm No. 5 and heavy rains has caused many reservoirs in Nghe An to be full of water. Currently, localities and the irrigation sector are focusing on both storing water for production and operating and regulating reservoirs safely during the flood season.

Continuous heavy rains in recent days have caused water levels in many reservoirs in the province to rise.
According to information from the Nghe An Irrigation Department, Nghe An province currently has 1,061 large and small reservoirs. During the rainy season from September 8-10, 38 reservoirs were full of water, of which 18 were managed by irrigation enterprises and 20 were managed by localities.
There are 881 large and small reservoirs with water levels reaching 40-70%, the above reservoirs are mainly located in the districts of Quynh Luu, Yen Thanh, Nghia Dan,Tan Ky… Of which, there are 2 large reservoirs reaching full water level: Song Sao reservoir (Nghia Dan) with elevation of 73.75/75.74m, Vuc Mau reservoir (Hoang Mai town) with elevation of 16.53/21m.

Due to continuous heavy rains in recent days, the water level of Song Sao reservoir has increased, reaching 73.75/75.74m. To ensure the regulation of water in the reservoir during the rainy season, from October 4-8,Song Sao Lake1 spillway has been opened, discharge capacity 45 m3/s. Currently, the water level in the reservoir has returned to a safe level at 73m.
Mr. Hoang Tran Lam - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Phu Quy Irrigation Company Limited said: During the rainy season, Song Sao reservoir always maintains 4-6 workers to operate, daily check and monitor the current status of the project and water level to regulate appropriately.
For Vuc Mau reservoir (Hoang Mai town), at this time, there are always 8 workers operating, regularly monitoring water level, rainfall, checking the current status of the project, checking the rain gauge system, automatic spillway opening system...

Mr. Nguyen Kim Thuy - Head of the Department of Irrigation Works and Rural Clean Water Management (Irrigation Sub-Department) said: To ensure the safety of reservoirs during the rainy season, irrigation units focus on operating and regulating water reasonably to ensure the safety of reservoirs. Before spilling, irrigation units must notify the Provincial People's Committee, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue, the District People's Committee and related communes in the area to ensure safety for downstream areas.
Localities were notified of the spillway in advance and proactively developed plans to evacuate people and property to limit damage. Irrigation staff closely monitored the impact of the flood discharge on downstream areas.

The difficulty for local reservoirs during the current flood season is that most small reservoirs lack elevation and cross-section, and many spillways are temporary and damaged, making it difficult to drain floods./.

Nghe An: Many reservoirs dry up, summer-autumn rice seriously lacks irrigation water
(Baonghean.vn) - The continuous heat wave has caused many reservoirs in Nghe An to dry up. Currently, some rice fields in the lake area are seriously lacking irrigation water, greatly affecting the summer-autumn rice crop.
