Share your feelings after the draw ended,Head coach Park Hang-seosaid:“It can be seen that, except for Brunei and Timor Leste who had to draw lots to compete in the play-off, in general, the Southeast Asian teams are of similar level. So, I think the draw result is also normal.”
Evaluating the opponents in the same group and the challenges that the Vietnamese team will face in the journey to defend the championship, coach Park Hang-seo said:“I think the teams in the same group as Vietnam are all tough opponents. We will have to do our best in every match. The first goal is to get through the group stage first, then we can think about the semi-finals and the final.”

Unlike the teams participating in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020, the Vietnam national team also has to compete in a much higher level arena, the 3rd qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup in Asia. This requires coach Park Hang-seo and his colleagues to carefully calculate the force problem to ensure that the team completes its tasks on both fronts.

According to the schedule announced by AFF, the play-off match for tickets to the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 between Timor Leste and Brunei will take place on December 1, 2021. The matches at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 will be held from December 5, 2021 to January 1, 2022.
In the group stage, the teams will compete in a round-robin format to determine rankings in each group. The first and second teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals.
The semi-finals will be played in a knockout format over two legs. The first two semi-final matches will be played on December 22, 2021 and December 23, 2021. The second two matches will be held on December 25 and December 26, 2021.
The two semi-final winners will play the first leg of the final on December 29, 2021 and the second leg of the final on January 1, 2022. The two semi-final losers will be tied for third place.
