Competition for economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction

Coming to Na Tong village, Tam Thai commune, Tuong Duong district, many people are surprised by the rapid changes here. From a poor village, people only knew how to slash and burn all year round, but up to now, Na Tong village has exuded a new look when many households in the village have risen out of poverty; economic models with high income have appeared. To achieve the results like today, we must mention Mr. Nguyen Trong Tan - a prestigious person in Na Tong village who actively mobilized people to participate in economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction.

In 2014, after retiring, Mr. Nguyen Trong Tan was elected by the people as a prestigious person of the village. With his knowledge through many years of working in the locality, he himself tried to work with the Party Committee, Party cell and Village Management Board to complete the socio-economic goals set by the village every year.

Mr. Tan shared: “With the attention of the Party and the State, every year, I am able to participate in training courses organized by the district and province, and receive Nghe An Newspaper, Ethnic and Development Newspaper, etc. Through that, I am promptly updated with the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on ethnic affairs, socio-economic development policies, hunger eradication and poverty reduction in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; current affairs, etc. From there, I have been able to effectively carry out propaganda and mobilize the people.”

Up to now, Na Tong village has formed a clean vegetable growing model of 2.7 hectares with 20 participating households; increased the scale and total herd of pork; applied techniques to produce 2 rice crops of more than 100 hectares, bringing high productivity and good quality rice. In particular, he has mobilized people to grow high-yield cassava, which initially gave high productivity; guava and dragon fruit growing models, fish breeding models, fattening buffalo, cows, pigs... giving people an income of 80 - 90 million VND/household/year; contributing to the work of hunger eradication and poverty reduction in the locality.

In the work of hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and socio-economic development, many prestigious people among ethnic minorities are an important support for Party committees and authorities at all levels in propagating and mobilizing people to implement the Party's policies and the State's laws and policies, and participate in socio-economic development. Prestigious people are exemplary in participating in economic development; at the same time, actively propagandize people to apply science and technology in production and animal husbandry, and successfully build farm economic models.

Thanks to that, most prestigious families with stable economy have supported and helped many poor ethnic minority households know how to do business, produce, support seedlings, cash to help them escape poverty, increase income. Thanks to that, by the end of 2020, the poverty rate in the whole province decreased by 2 - 3%/year; in which the average poverty rate in ethnic minority and mountainous areas decreased by 3 - 4%/year...

Implement good policies with prestigious people

Nghe An province has over 3.3 million people, of which ethnic minorities account for about 14.7% of the province's population; there are 6 ethnic groups living in concentrated areas including Kinh, Thai, Tho, Kho Mu, Mong, O Du and some other ethnic groups. The whole province has 1,238 prestigious people, they are Party cell secretaries; village and hamlet chiefs; intellectuals; retired cadres; village elders; clan heads; businessmen...

Over the years, prestigious people among ethnic minorities have regularly done a good job of propagating and mobilizing people, especially ethnic minorities, to implement the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws. In addition, prestigious people have also done a good job of two-way communication between the Party Committee, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations to grasp the situation among the people in residential areas, implementing the motto: "People know, people discuss, people do, people inspect".

Prestigious people among ethnic minorities always maintain great solidarity in the community; coordinate with the police force to maintain political security, social order and safety at the grassroots level, and prevent "hot spots" from occurring. They always coordinate with the government to propagate and mobilize people to raise their vigilance, resolutely fight, and not listen to the propaganda of bad guys; together with the police and military forces, build a position of people's hearts and security, and maintain peace in the villages.

To recognize the efforts of prestigious people in the community, all levels and sectors maintain organizing conferences to meet, commend and reward outstanding prestigious people. From 2017 to now, the whole province has had 344 prestigious people awarded Certificates of Merit and Certificates of Merit from all levels. It is expected that in November 2021, the Provincial People's Committee will organize the Third Provincial Conference to Commend Prestigious People in Ethnic Minorities and present gifts, commend and reward 190 prestigious individuals with many outstanding achievements in the period 2019 - 2021. Thereby, promptly commend, honor and encourage outstanding prestigious people in all fields.
