Applying Free Trade Agreements to boost exports to the EU market

(Baonghean.vn) - At the conference, speakers helped businesses understand and effectively apply the commitments in EVFTA, UKVFTA, especially the Rules of Origin of goods, which are important and necessary in promoting import and export activities in Nghe An.

On the morning of October 30, the Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with the Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade to organize a training conference on applying the rules of origin in the EVFTA and UKVFTA free trade agreements to boost exports to the EU market.
The training conference was directly delivered by Mr. Tran Ngoc Binh - Head of Import-Export Department in Ho Chi Minh City - Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade; Ms. Nguyen Thi Trong Nghia - Deputy Head of Import-Export Department in Ho Chi Minh City - Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade.

In the first 10 months of 2021, despite the difficulties in production, business, and import-export due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the province's export enterprises have overcome difficulties and adjusted their plans to boost exports. As of the first 10 months of the year, the total export turnover is estimated at 1.3 billion USD; of whichexport of goodsreached 1,032 million USD, increased 58.5%, achieved and exceeded 13.4% of the yearly plan.

However, there are only more than 30 enterprises exporting to the EU market. Export turnover to this market only reached more than 30 million USD in 2020 and reached 27 million USD in the first 9 months of 2021, accounting for only 3-4% of the province's total export turnover.

Although the EVFTA and UKVFTA trade agreements are expected to bring many opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises in general and Nghe An in particular, compared to otherFree trade agreementUnlike EVFTA and UKVFTA, they have many new and more complex points, both in terms of criteria expression and accompanying regulations. Therefore, the training content will help businesses understand and effectively apply the commitments in EVFTA and UKVFTA, especially the Rules of Origin of goods, which are important and necessary in promoting import and export activities in the province in the coming time, thereby assigning tasks and organizing the effective implementation of the two Agreements in the province.

At the training conference, businesses, business associations, business establishments, and craft villages focused on discussing difficulties and obstacles in the practical application of rules of origin in the EVFTA and UKVFTA agreements to work together to resolve them.
