Although affected by storms in late September, the entirewinter vegetable areaIn Quynh Thach commune (Quynh Luu), flooding forced replanting. Immediately after the water receded, households urgently prepared the land and planted short-term vegetables to supply the market in time, mainly mustard greens and sweet mustard greens.

Currently, nearly 100 hectares of winter vegetables of Quynh Thach farmers are in the harvest season. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, hamlet 1, Quynh Thach commune said: "More than 2 sao of mustard greens are being harvested, traders come to the field to buy at 6,000 VND/bunch, twice as expensive as the main crop vegetables. After the mustard greens, it will be followed by Malabar spinach and tomatoes. After that, we will focus on growing kohlrabi and cabbage to serveLunar New Year market”.

Early winter vegetables are more expensive than main-season vegetables, are easier to sell, and bring in more profit. Therefore, the authorities of Quynh Thach commune have actively directed and guided people to overcome unfavorable weather conditions to plant early winter crops and take care of vegetables according to the correct procedures. So far, 80% of the winter vegetable area, mainly mustard greens and coriander, has been harvested.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Trinh - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Quynh Thach Commune said: "In order to increase the value of vegetables, the Farmers' Association of the Commune has established a vegetable growing cooperative with 18 members participating. In addition to providing fertilizers with deferred payment, the cooperative has guided farmers to choose vegetables with stable consumption markets; harvest early to sell at a good price, care according to the correct process, focus on developing clean and safe agricultural production to gradually increase the value of vegetables. With a planting and care time of about 30-35 days for a harvest, each sao of vegetables brings an average income of 3.5-4 million VND/crop...".

In Nghi Long commune (Nghi Loc), many areas of cucumbers, bitter melons, baby squash and squash shoots, and sweet potato shoots have been harvested early to supply the market. According to a survey, the prices of these vegetables are currently being sold at quite high prices: Cucumbers 25,000 - 30,000 VND/kg, squash shoots 15,000 - 20,000 VND/bunch, baby squash costs 30,000 VND/kg, bitter melon 35,000 VND/kg...

In recent years, in many localities, based on the characteristics of terrain and soil, the winter crop time frame has been adjusted appropriately, following the form of crop rotation, overlapping crops, and rolling harvest to avoid the situation of planting at the same time, harvesting at the same time, causing an imbalance in supply and demand, leading to difficulty in consumption and loss of value.

Thanks to the early harvest, the vegetable output on the market is still low, the purchase price is high, and people have increased their income.

With prices 1.5-2 times higher than the main crop, vegetable growers earn a profit of 3.5-4 million VND/sao. In addition, in many localities, farmers have boldly invested in greenhouses and net houses during the market shortage, bringing high income.
