Things to note when children are vaccinated against Covid-19
To reduce the risk of anaphylaxis, parents should inform health care workers of their child's history of allergies or anaphylaxis to drugs or vaccines. It is necessary to observe signs such as fatigue, itching, facial swelling, and difficulty breathing in children within 15 minutes after vaccination. Other complications are difficult to identify, so it is important that parents monitor their children and report any unusual symptoms to health authorities.
Because they are not yet mature, parents need to pay attention to four characteristics when getting vaccinated: Children often do not understand the benefits of vaccination, so they may not voluntarily and cooperatively get vaccinated; Children do not know how to self-report their health status and medical history; Children often have a lower pain tolerance than adults, so they may cry or struggle when getting vaccinated; Children do not have the experience to recognize their own signs such as fatigue, dizziness, itching, and difficulty breathing.
Therefore, parents need to explain the benefits of vaccination and the vaccination process to children in age-appropriate language, instruct children on how to prepare and respond to pain during and after vaccination, and monitor children closely after vaccination.
