(Baonghean.vn) - After the storms this year, Nghe An province currently has many locally managed reservoirs that are "dry bottom" and cannot ensure water supply for spring rice crop.

Some local people reported: Due to the deterioration, damage, and leakage of the reservoir, all the water has been lost, leading to the lake drying up and not being able to store water, making us very worried about the upcoming spring rice crop.

At Khe Cai reservoir, the spillway system is damaged and eroded. During the recent flood, some canals connecting to the reservoir were broken and some concrete sections collapsed. A representative of Nghi Lam Commune People's Committee said: Khe Cai reservoir provides irrigation water for nearly 40 hectares of rice in hamlets 11 and 12. However, due to deterioration and damage, water has been lost, affecting the water supply for spring crop irrigation.

Mr. Tran Nguyen Hoa - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghi Loc district added: Nghi Loc district currently has 45 reservoirs, of which 21 are degraded and damaged, so most of the reservoirs have difficulty in storing water, affecting irrigation for nearly 2,000 hectares of rice fields in the lake area.

In the districtYen Thanh,After the recent storms, many reservoirs were severely damaged. For example, Dia Tho reservoir in Duc Thanh commune had a landslide in the upstream part of 25 meters long, 4.5 meters wide and high, Ben Ganh reservoir in Duc Thanh commune had a landslide of over 30 meters in the dam body, 4 meters wide and high, some locations of the dam body and sluices were leaking, making it difficult to store water for spring rice irrigation.

According to the report of Yen Thanh district's agricultural department: The recent flood has damaged 6 reservoirs. Currently, Yen Thanh district People's Committee has sent a document to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to have a plan to repair and serve rice irrigation.

Mr. Nguyen Truong Thanh, Head of Nghe An Irrigation Sub-Department added: After the recent storms, Nghe An has many damaged irrigation works, especially reservoir works. The Irrigation Sub-Department has requested localities to mobilize people to temporarily fix the damage, and in the long term, they will invest in repairs.
