Commercial eel farming inYen Thanh districthas been developed for many years, but the model of eel breeding by artificial reproduction is new and rare.
The eel breeding model using artificial reproduction method of farmer Nguyen Viet Phuc in hamlet 5, Xuan Thanh commune is considered effective after receiving support in science, technology and capital.
According to Mr. Phuc, the model was implemented from the beginning of 2020, with the support of the District Agricultural Service Center. Parent eels are raised in mud tanks, when it is time to spawn, the egg nests must be observed to collect the eggs into the incubation area.

However, in the process of implementation, at first due to the influence of harsh weather and climate, along with lack of experience, the efficiency was not high. However, after 8 months of implementation, it can be affirmed that it was successful, the amount of eel seeds obtained was as expected, with the hatching rate of eggs reaching over 80%, the eels were healthy, no disease appeared, and the survival rate was high.
"The parent eels must be replaced after 2 years of breeding, so at this time I harvest all the parent eels to sell as commercial eels. Then replace them with a new batch of parent eels that I produce right on the spot," said Mr. Nguyen Viet Phuc.
From the original model with 50m2Now Mr. Phuc has expanded the area to hundreds of square meters.2. All eel fry produced are ordered in large quantities by customers inside and outside the province, so "supply cannot meet demand".
