Mr. Lo Hung in Tung Huong village, Tam Quang commune said: Since the 8th lunar month, his family has raised 50 native black pigs (self-bred), after about 5 months they will be sold, and now all have been booked.

According to Mr. Hung: Black pigs are mainly raised free-range, eating food taken from the family mainly wild vegetables, bananas, potatoes, cassava... so the meat is firm, delicious, the fatty meat is crispy and not greasy, so it is very popular with customers.

Ms. Kha Thi Hien - Chairman of Tam Quang Commune People's Committee added: The commune currently has nearly 60 livestock farming households.black pigLocal but mainly small-scale farming, from 15-20 pigs/household, large households raise 50-60 pigs. During Tet, the demand for black pigs is very high, so households are actively taking care of their pigs to serve customers.

The economic efficiency that local pigs bring is very positive. In the long term, the commune encourages people to breed native black pigs to develop livestock farming in the direction of clean food, using locally available food to maintain product quality when bringing to market.

According to the report of the Agriculture Department of Tuong Duong district, the total pig herd in the district is currently over 20,000, of which the specialty black pig is only about 8,000. The price of native black pigs is stable at 120,000 - 150,000 VND/kg. The reason why black pigs raised by the highlanders are still sold at high prices is because this type of pig is increasingly scarce, while the demand from buyers is high, especially near Tet.

Black pigs are one of the pig breeds with good resistance, not picky about food, easy to raise, easy to adapt to all living conditions, especially in spacious, mountainous areas. However, currently in remote districts such as Ky Son, Que Phong, Quy Chau... the number of black pigs raised by local people is gradually decreasing, especially before the epidemic caused the shortage of breeding pigs.

According to experts, because the places where native pigs are raised are mainly in highland areas, with large areas and backward people's education level, the application of scientific and technological advances in animal husbandry is limited, and disease prevention is not given much attention...

Therefore, to develop the specialty pig herd in Nghe An in an effective commodity direction, bringing high economic value to local people, it is necessary to enhance the capacity of on-site breeding, focus on biosafety and disease-safety farming and link farming areas; improve research, selection and breeding capacity on the basis of human resource training and investment in technical facilities...
