The new variant causes many strange symptoms in addition to the familiar fever, cough, and shortness of breath of Covid-19.

Omicronhas rapidly spread around the world, becoming the dominant variant in several countries just over a month after it was discovered.

People with Covid-19 have reported a range of symptoms from mild to severe, some of which may require medical attention, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

According to the CDC, symptoms can appear 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus. Some of the basic manifestations are fever, chills, cough, loss of taste and smell.

In addition, there are some other signs of illness to pay attention to including shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, stuffy nose, runny nose, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Patients should seek immediate medical attention if they develop symptoms such as pale, gray, or blue skin, lips, or fingernails, the CDC added.

Emergency symptoms also include difficulty breathing, persistent chest pain, confusion, and not feeling alert upon awakening.

People with these symptoms are at risk of Omicron infection even if they have had another variant.

The UK National Health Service recommends that if people have symptoms of Covid-19, they should immediately isolate themselves and do a PCR test.

“Self-isolate even if you have had Covid-19 in the past. You may have immunity to the virus, but it is not clear how long that immunity lasts,” the health agency noted.

A booster dose of the vaccine improves the protection you get from the first two doses of the vaccine. Most people will get 1 booster dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

“We have no time to waste in the race between the virus and a vaccine. Booster jabs are vital in bolstering our defences,” said UK Health Secretary Sajid Javid.

The UK currently has 250,000 cases of Omicorn, including nearly 1,000 hospitalisations and 75 deaths.
