(Baonghean.vn) - After being continuously delayed due to thick fog in Vinh City for many nights, although compensation flights were arranged, fatigue was clearly visible on the faces of people returning home for Tet.

In recent days, in the areaVinh CityThe continuous occurrence of dense fog at night has caused many flights from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Lat to Vinh airport to be canceled or diverted.

Notably, on the night of January 25, 14 flights of Vietnam Airlines, Bamboo, Vietjet, Jetstar had to be canceled or diverted to Noi Bai airport. Not stopping there, on the evening of January 26, 6 flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh were also canceled, some flights had to be diverted to Noi Bai airport and Tho Xuan airport (Thanh Hoa).

Mr. Tran Huu Hoan (Yen Thanh), flying from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh, said that according to the schedule, the flight carrying his family back to their hometown would take off at 8:30 p.m. on January 26, and was expected to arrive in Vinh at around 11 p.m. the same day. However, due to bad weather in Vinh, the flight was canceled and postponed to after 10 a.m. the next day. Because the whole family traveled from Long An to Ho Chi Minh City, returning would take a lot of time, so Mr. Hoan's family of 5 had to wait at the airport to wait for a make-up flight the next day.

Mr. Hoan shook his head and said, "It's not okay not to go home during the traditional Tet holiday, but going home like this is truly a difficult journey."

Not as lucky as Mr. Hoan’s family, many people who took the night flight to Vinh airport on January 25 and 26 had to change to Noi Bai airport and Tho Xuan airport. After arriving, some were arranged by the ticket office to take shuttle buses to Vinh, but many had to arrange their own transportation after being compensated 500,000 VND by the airlines.

According to the representative of the Northern Airport Authority in Vinh, on January 27, as planned, there will be 35 flights landing at Vinh airport. Among them are many make-up flights from previous nights. However, there are 7 flights scheduled to land at Vinh airport after 8:00 p.m. If the weather in Vinh in recent days is followed, it is unlikely that flights after 8:00 p.m. will be able to land, which means that on the night of January 27, there may be more flights canceled, delayed or having to change their itinerary.

According to hydrometeorological experts, in winter, in the Central and Northern provinces, fog often appears at night and early in the morning. This phenomenon is due to the temperature difference between day and night. During the day when it is sunny, moisture on the ground evaporates and moves up, gradually condensing when it meets cold air. When night falls, this cold air mass is heavier than the hot air mass, so it falls down, accumulates near the ground and forms fog. This has limited visibility, and many flights have been canceled due to unsafe takeoffs and landings.
