(Baonghean.vn) - The Ukrainian government has abandoned the only compromise solution to the regional crisis by not implementing the Minsk agreements. This is the opinion of expert Simon Jenkins published in The Guardian.

“The Russian president has said he wants the 2015 Minsk agreements to be implemented. This is a reasonable agreement. It requires autonomy for the Russian-speaking Donbass region, an end to NATO expansion, a Russian withdrawal and the restoration of Ukraine's borders,” said Jenkins, recalling Western diplomats andUkrainedid nothing to ensure respect for the agreements.

“Any sane observer sees the Minsk agreements as a realistic and fair way out of the crisis. But the agreement is being violated by the Kiev authorities, which have long feared pro-Russian sentiment in Donbass and opposed the region’s ‘autonomy’,” Mr Jenkins added.

In recent months, Western media have reported that Moscow is preparing an "invasion" of Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly denied such allegations./.
