Arrested young man pouring gasoline and trying to burn police
Suspect Nguyen Van Thao in Kien Giang poured gasoline on a police officer and used an iron bar to beat the victim.
On February 12, the Investigation Police Agency of Go Quao District Police (Kien Giang) announced that they had just detained suspect Nguyen Van Thao (26 years old, in Vinh Phuoc A commune) to investigate the act of "Intentionally causing injury".
Suspect Thao was just arrested on the 2nd day of Tet after 2 years on the run.

According to the investigation results, at the end of 2019, Mr. Tieu Quoc Linh, a police officer of Vinh Phuoc A commune, discovered many people gathering to gamble on cockfighting for money on Nguyen Van Thao's grandfather's land, so he came to disperse them.
Angry that his cockfighting ring had been shut down after only two days of opening, suspect Thao brought an iron bar and a can of gasoline to Mr. Linh's house and threatened to burn it down.
When Mr. Linh opened the door, Thao rushed in and poured gasoline on him. At that time, suspect Thao lit a lighter but it did not light. Mr. Linh's wife rushed in and snatched the lighter but was pushed out by Mr. Linh. Thao immediately used an iron bar to hit the police officer, causing injuries. He also threw bricks into the house, threatening to kill Mr. Linh.
Thao was then arrested by the police and taken to the police station. After being allowed to go home to wait for the results of the victim's injury assessment, Thao fled the area.
The Go Quao District Police Department issued a wanted notice. After 2 years on the run, Thao was recently arrested when he returned home for Tet.
