Prosecuted subject who destroyed ATM because of 'eye-sore'
Ngo Duc Dung confessed that he felt "irritated and uncomfortable" when the screen light of an ATM in Can Loc district, Ha Tinh was flashing, so he used an iron stake to damage the device.
On February 20, Dung, 44 years old, residing in Nghen town, was prosecuted and detained by Can Loc district police, Ha Tinh province for the crime ofIntentional damage to property, according to Article 178 of the Penal Code.

According to the investigation results, on February 19, after a drinking session, Dung walked home. When passing an ATM located in Nghen town, Dung broke the iron pole that the authorities used to place a flag on the side of the road, then smashed the screen.
From the bank's report, after a few hours of investigation, Dung was arrested by the police. Authorities determined that the damage Dung caused was nearly 100 million VND.
At the investigation agency, Dung said he lived alone, his wife had been abroad for many years and had not returned, so he felt depressed and often turned to alcohol to relieve stress. On February 19, after a drinking session, when he passed an ATM, he saw the screen flashing and felt "itchy and uncomfortable".
Police said Dung showed signs of psychosis due to drinking alcohol.
