Ukrainian President Zelensky declares general mobilization
Mr Zelensky said the move was necessary to “ensure the defense capabilities of the state” and “maintain the combat readiness” of Ukraine’s armed forces.
President of UkraineVolodymyr Zelensky on February 25 (local time) signed a decree on general mobilization, calling on conscripts and reservists nationwide to support the army, after Russia launched a "special military operation" in Donbass and targeted other regions in Ukraine. The general mobilization order will be implemented within the next 90 days.
Mr Zelensky said the move was necessary to “ensure the defense capabilities of the state” and “maintain combat readiness” of Ukraine’s armed forces in the face of what he said was Moscow’s “aggression”.
The mobilization of forces is expected to take place in 25 regions and cities, including the Donetsk and Lugansk regions in Donbass - which Russia recognized as independent earlier this week.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian army will soon publish details of the decree, including the exact number of conscripts and reservists called up for duty, as well as "the deployment of means to meet the needs" of the armed forces, the decree stated./.
