On the eggplant beds in village 4, Hoa Son commune, farmers are excitedly harvesting the first eggplants of the season. Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong - the owner of the eggplant garden said: Her family has a tradition of growingcoconutgreen for decades. Near the end of each season, she leaves the most beautiful eggplants on the tree to collect seeds for the following year. Through the process of planting and caring for them, Ms. Huong realized that this is an easy-to-grow plant, requires little care, and produces fruit for a very long time.
Green coconut eggplant can be harvested after about 85 - 90 days of planting. The harvest period lasts 3 - 4 months, or even up to 5 months if well cared for and weather conditions are favorable. This year, Ms. Huong's family planted nearly 2 sao of eggplant.
"It's the beginning of the season now, and it's also the time when vegetables are scarce, so eggplants are very expensive. If sold at the field, it would be 20,000 VND/kg, but to earn more income, I don't import them.traderbut directly brought to the market to sell at 25,000 VND/kg. The estimated yield is over 5 quintals/sao, earning over 12 million VND/sao", Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong excitedly said.

Also a household that has grown green coconut eggplant for many years, Ms. Tran Thi Hoa in village 4, Hoa Son commune said: The green coconut eggplant variety grown here is not too big, has an eye-catching green color, is mild, and does not have a strong smell like other eggplant varieties. Moreover, the eggplant is mainly grown in the garden, without using pesticides, people mainly use corn husks to compost to limit weeds and keep the soil moist, so it is favored by consumers.
According to Ms. Hoa, this year the weather is favorable, the cool beginning of the season is very favorable for farmers to prepare the land, sow seeds and take care of them; during the preparation stage for harvest, the weather is cool so the plants grow better, the rate of flowering and fruiting is higher. The time from January to April and May is the eggplant harvest season. At the peak harvest time, the plants are picked once a day, the rest of the time they are picked once every 3 days. With an area of 1.5 sao, with a selling price ranging from 20,000-25,000 VND/kg, her family can earn more than 15 million VND in profit.

Green coconut inMr. Songrown in many communes such as Hoa Son, Tuong Son, Phuc Son... with an area of over 20 hectares. People mainlygarden renovationto grow in the family garden. The main crop starts from October, harvest after Tet and lasts 4 - 5 months. The yield is from 5-6 quintals/sao, after deducting expenses, each crop of eggplant growing households has a profit of 12-15 million VND/sao.
The effectiveness of the green coconut growing model has opened up a direction for Anh Son people in converting crop structure, contributing to increasing income on the same cultivated area.
