Tourism is open, restaurants and hotels in Nghe An are operating again, and the hot weather has increased the demand for seafood. Therefore,Prices of seafood began to increase.
According to a survey at traditional markets, the prices of seafood such as crab, squid, shrimp, mantis shrimp, clams, etc. have increased by 15 - 20%. Specifically, grade 1 sea crab costs 600,000 - 650,000 VND/kg (an increase of 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg); grade 1 fresh squid costs 300,000 - 350,000 VND/kg (an increase of 15,000 - 20,000 VND/kg); mackerel costs 150,000 - 170,000 VND/kg (an increase of 10,000 - 15,000 VND/kg); sea shrimp costs 350,000 - 400,000 VND/kg (an increase of 50,000 VND/kg)... Although seafood prices have increased, purchasing power at the markets is still vibrant.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet - a fresh seafood trader at Vinh market said: "For the past two weeks, the prices of seafood have started to increase. Before, people brought goods to import, but in the past few days, we have had to go down to the wharf to catch the boat and buy right at the wharf. The price of flashing squid has increased by about 20% compared to before, boiled squid has increased by 15%, shrimp has increased by 20%, and crab alone has increased by 30%...
Prices have increased, but due to the heat, purchasing power has still increased by about 50% compared to before. Restaurants are taking more goods; retail buyers are also quite numerous. SourceQuynh Luu seafood,Dien Chau, Cua Lo… cannot meet the demand, so we import seafood from other provinces to do business.
Due to the high demand, seafood is being sought after by traders right at the wharf. At Lach Quen fishing port (Quynh Luu), fishermen from Quynh Long, Tien Thuy, Quynh Nghia communes are flocking to shore to rest on the moon, bringing with them a rich source of seafood. Fisherman Nguyen Van Tung in Quynh Long commune said that in recent trips, fishermen have been lucky to catch many valuable seafood such as fresh squid, mackerel, tuna, etc.
“When the ship returns to shore, all seafood is purchased by traders on the same day, ensuring the value of the catch. During this time, seafood prices also start to increase by 10-15% per type. After deducting expenses, each worker earns 5-7 million VND on this trip. After the full moon holiday, around the 17th of the lunar calendar, the ship will continue to set sail,” fisherman Tung shared.

For boats operating near shore, this is the season for fishermen to exploit fresh seafood such as squid, sardines, herring, mantis shrimp, crabs, snails... to import to coastal restaurants. According to fishermen, thanks to the good quality, seafood caught near shore is always sought after by traders and purchased at high prices. After just 1 night of exploitation, fishermen can earn from 5 to 10 million VND.
Mr. Truong Nhu Duong - Chairman of Nghi Hai Ward Farmers' Association (Cua Lo Town) said: "Nghi Hai fishermen's boats mainly fish close to shore, exploiting valuable seafood such as squid, shrimp, crab, snails, etc. This season, these seafood are ordered by restaurants before they reach the dock, the purchase price is also 10-15% higher than before, bringing a good income to fishermen".
