Department of Education and Training proposes strict handling of teacher slapping student case

Speaking to Nghe An Newspaper, teacher Nguyen Ba Thuy - Principal of Bac Yen Thanh High School confirmed the above incident. Accordingly, on the morning of April 27, 2022, during the 4th period of History of class 10D3, teacher Nguyen Thi Huong discovered that student Ha Danh P was using a mobile phone without permission and she asked P to return the phone but P did not do so. After that, Ms. Huong invited Mr. Ho Van Lich - Head of the school's Security and Discipline Committee to handle the matter. Here, student P continued to have an uncooperative attitude, so in a moment of incompetence, Mr. Lich slapped the student twice.
In the afternoon, the family took Ha Danh P to Yen Thanh District General Hospital for examination, and the conclusion was that he had a perforated eardrum.

Teacher Nguyen Ba Thuy also said: After receiving the information, the school sent a working group led by Mr. Ta Van Cuong (Vice Principal) and Mr. Ngo Sy Thang (Head of Natural Science Department) to directly visit P's house to encourage and inquire about her health and coordinate with the family to find a reasonable solution.
The family requested a medical examination and assessment of the child's injuries. On the night of April 27, the working group took P to Cua Dong General Hospital (Vinh City, Nghe An). The hospital's conclusion was that the patient had a perforated eardrum, no bleeding in the ear, and no injuries in other areas.
In response to this incident, on April 28, Bac Yen Thanh High School also issued a decision to temporarily suspend teacher Ho Van Lich from work for 15 days from April 28 to May 12 to clarify the incident. At the same time, teachers Ho Van Lich (the attacker) and Nguyen Thi Huong (the witness) were required to write a report and self-criticism.
Regarding the above incident, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan - Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training also said: This is a very unfortunate incident. Therefore, upon receiving the information, the Department requested the school to take the student to the hospital for examination and health check-up to receive the best treatment plan, quickly healing the wound.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan also said that teachers beating students is not allowed for any reason. Therefore, this is a valuable lesson for teachers in behavior and needs to be learned from throughout the industry. The Department also proposed to strictly handle the above incident, requiring the teachers involved to report and explain. After verifying the incident, the school will hold a disciplinary council meeting to have appropriate and correct handling according to regulations.
Through this incident, the Department also recommends and hopes that parents will closely cooperate with the school to educate their children, strictly follow the school's rules and regulations when going to school. For example, using a phone without the teacher's permission not only affects the student's knowledge acquisition but also affects the teaching time of the whole class.
