Colonel Diep Van The, Deputy Director and Head of the Criminal Police Department of Kien Giang Province Police, directed the Criminal Police force to coordinate with Hon Dat District Police to investigate and find the perpetrator.
After a day of collecting evidence, using professional measures, on the morning of May 6, the police determined that Nguyen Van Nguyen was involved in the incident and invited him in for questioning.
At first, suspect Nguyen denied the crime, but with the evidence and sharp arguments of the investigator, he bowed his head and admitted his guilt.
Nguyen confessed that 2 years ago, he borrowed money from Mr. S. and his wife, but did not pay them back on time. Nguyen was repeatedly insulted by Mr. S. and his wife. From then on, he became angry and had the intention to kill in revenge.
Recently, Nguyen learned that Mr. S. had just separated from his wife and was living alone.
At around 7am on May 3, Nguyen went to Mr. S's house to drink. After that, he went home. At around 8pm the same day, Nguyen went to Mr. S's house again to invite him to drink.
At this time, Nguyen saw Mr. S. sleeping, so he took a hammer and hit the victim on the head, causing his death. Then, Nguyen robbed Mr. S. of his ring, bracelet, and gold necklace.
Seeing the blood-stained clothes, Nguyen took them off to burn them with the victim's body. However, seeing that it was just after 8 p.m., Nguyen was afraid that people would discover him so he went home. At around 11 p.m. the next day (May 4), Nguyen returned to Mr. S's house, poured gasoline from his motorbike on the victim and the surrounding area, and then set fire to him. Due to carelessness, Nguyen also suffered burns to his face and hands.
Nguyen sold the gold he robbed from Mr. S. for 42.6 million VND, then paid off his debt and spent it.
