Nghe An weightlifter won gold medal at SEA Games 31

(Baonghean.vn) - Female athlete Pham Thi Hong Thanh - Nghe An Sports Training and Competition Center broke the SEA Games 31 record in the 64kg weightlifting category, bringing home a Gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation at SEA Games 31.

On May 21, weightlifter Pham Thi Hong Thanh entered the weightlifting competition at the 31st SEA Games in the 64 kg category. In this category, the female athlete from Nghe An faced fierce competition from two athletes from Indonesia and the Philippines. Both female weightlifters continuously broke SEA Games records and put great pressure on Pham Thi Hong Thanh. However, in a brilliant day of competition, the weightlifter from Nghe An broke the SEA Games record three times to reach the highest podium in this category.

Specifically, in the snatch event, Pham Thi Hong Thanh broke the SEA Games record when she lifted 104 kg. Meanwhile, the female athlete from the Philippines chose to lift 103 kg on her third attempt and had to accept defeat against the golden girl of Nghe An sports.

In the clean and jerk, Nguyen Thi Hong Thanh lifted 126 kg on her second attempt, setting a SEA Games record (2 kg higher than the old record).


With a total lift of 230 kg, Pham Thi Hong Thanh also surpassed the old SEA Games record for total lift by 16 kg (the old record was 214 kg). With an excellent performance, the weightlifter of Nghe An sports won the Gold Medal at the 31st SEA Games in weightlifting, 64 kg weight class.

Pham Thi Hong Thanh is known as a talented weightlifter of Nghe An sports. At the 30th SEA Games, this weightlifter also won a Gold Medal in the 64kg weight class.

Previously, athlete Nguyen Van Quang of Nghe An also won a silver medal in petanque at the 31st SEA Games.
