According to Education Week, the shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, USA on May 24 that left at least 21 people dead marked the 27th school shooting in the country this year.

The incident occurred just 10 days after a shooting at a Tops supermarket in Buffalo, New York, that claimed the lives of 10 people.

After the shooting, US President Joe Biden asked people to stand up against gun violence and pressure members of Congress to pass gun control laws.

“I hoped that when I became president, I would not have to do this again. Today’s mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, is another massacre in America,” Mr. Biden said.

ABC News said this was the deadliest school shooting in Texas history.

Columbine High School Massacre (1999)

The Columbine High School massacre occurred on April 20, 1999 at Columbine High School in Jefferson County, Colorado.

The shooting, carried out by two male students, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, left 12 students and a teacher dead and 24 others injured. The two perpetrators later committed suicide.

This was the fifth deadliest school shooting in US history. The incident sparked a debate about gun ownership and violence. However, many years have passed and there is still no solution to this problem.

Virginia Tech Massacre (2007)

The Virginia Tech massacre, also known as the Virginia Tech massacre, was a horrific shooting that occurred on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, United States on April 16, 2007.

In two separate attacks, each nearly two hours apart, South Korean gunman Seung Hui Cho killed 32 people and injured 33 others. He then committed suicide.

Santa Fe High School Shooting (2018)

Ten people, including eight students, were killed in a shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas on May 18, 2018.

According to a witness, the attacker brought a weapon, a handgun, into an art classroom and started shooting.
