Since the beginning of May, farmers in Nghe An have been excited because the price of broiler chicken has increased sharply, from 57,000 - 65,000 VND/kg, to a peak of 70,000 - 85,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Tam - owner of a broiler farm in Tan Minh hamlet, Tan Huong commune (Tan Ky) excitedly said that for broiler chickens raised in this free-range form, before May, selling them at 65,000 VND/kg was profitable, but in early May, the price of chickens increased sharply to 80,000 - 85,000 VND/kg, making farmers really excited.

"My family's chicken farm always maintains 3,500 - 5,000 chickens, raised in a semi-free range. After 4 months, they reach a weight of over 2kg/chicken before being sold, so the meat quality is good, so it is easy to consume in the market. With favorable prices, my family constantly increases the herd, at the same time taking good care and preventing diseases to supply the market," Mr. Nguyen Duc Tam shared.

According to Mr. Le Duc Thuyen - Chairman of Tan Huong Commune People's Committee, in the commune there are currently 41 farms and mixed farms, people take advantage of hills and mountains to raise commercial chickens in the form of free-range sale. Previously, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, chicken meat was difficult to sell, prices dropped sharply, but now the epidemic is under control, tourism is open, so chicken meat is consumed strongly, prices increase, farmers are excited to restore their flocks more strongly.

Dien Trung Commune (Dien Chau) is the locality with the largest number of VietGAP chicken farms in the province, with a total flock of around 300,000 chickens. At this time, chicken farm owners in Dien Trung Commune are excited because the price of chickens for sale has increased sharply. Mr. Dau Ngoc Hoa - Director of Dien Trung VietGAP Chicken Cooperative said that since the beginning of May, the price of chickens for sale in the locality has increased from 57,000 VND/kg to 70,000 VND/kg, and farmers are really excited because they are making a profit.

"There was a time before when the price of chicken increased to 65,000 VND/kg, but now it is 70,000 VND/kg, so this must be said to be a record number," Mr. Hoa excitedly shared.

According to Mr. Dau Ngoc Hoa, the reason for the sharp increase in chicken prices is that previously due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, along with the high price of feed, farmers reduced their herds. When the State opened tourism, the amount of food consumed at restaurants was strong, so supply could not meet demand. For example, at the Dien Trung VietGAP Chicken Farming Cooperative, which used to maintain 270,000 chickens, now there are only 90,000, leading to the supply not being enough to meet customer demand.

Research in other areas such as Yen Thanh, Anh Son, Thanh Chuong... shows that the price of broiler chicken has increased sharply. For industrially raised chickens, the price is 70,000 VND/kg, free-range chickens are sold for 80,000 - 85,000 VND/kg, and free-range chickens are over 110,000 VND/kg. With this price of broiler chickens, farmers are really making a profit./.
