US, Germany discuss efforts to mitigate impact of Ukraine crisis

The US and Germany discussed efforts to mitigate the impact of the Ukraine crisis on global energy and food security.

US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz met on June 26 ahead of the G7 Summit. The two sides discussed a number of issues including efforts to mitigate the impact of the Ukraine crisis on global energy and food security.

According to information from the White House, President Joe Biden appreciated Chancellor Olaf Scholz's leadership in the G7 group as well as coordinating the response to the crisis in Ukraine and in the areas of climate change and economy.

The two sides stressed their commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as continued provision of economic and military assistance and diplomatic support to Ukraine.

The two sides also discussed efforts to mitigate the impact of the Ukraine crisis on global energy and food security.

President Joe Biden welcomed Germany's historic commitment to significantly increase defense spending to fulfill its NATO commitments, saying it would help strengthen the bloc's deterrence and defense posture.

The two sides also discussed challenges from China and a shared commitment to providing transparent and high-standard solutions to address global infrastructure gaps./.
