Nghe An proposes JICA to support farmers in digital transformation and connecting agricultural product consumption
(Baonghean.vn) - In the coming time, Nghe An hopes that JICA will implement projects to build and develop agricultural value chains; digital transformation in connecting and consuming agricultural products.
On the afternoon of July 15, a delegation of experts from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) led by Mr. Murooka Naomichi - Deputy Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam Office had a meeting with the Provincial People's Committee on agricultural cooperation orientation.
Welcoming the delegation, on the side of Nghe An province, there was comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and representatives of the leaders of the departments and branches: Foreign Affairs, Industry and Trade, Agriculture and Rural Development.

At the beginning of the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nghia Hieu expressed his deep condolences to the country and people of Japan on the passing of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. It is a great loss not only for Japan, but also for the whole world, including Vietnam, when losing a close friend.
Informing the JICA delegation about the results that Nghe An achieved in the first 6 months of 2022, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nghia Hieu excitedly said that the province has attracted 580 million USD in FDI capital, ranking in the top 10 localities in attracting foreign investment capital.

In the past time, with the support of JICA, Nghe An province has been implementing 3 projects supported by JICA related to the agricultural sector, including: Technical cooperation project on agricultural development planning; Project to restore and upgrade the Northern Irrigation System; Project to restore and sustainably manage protective forests in Nghe An province. These projects have brought great efficiency to the economic development of Nghe An province.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nghia Hieu expressed his deep gratitude for JICA's attention to Nghe An. In the coming time, Nghe An hopes to continue to receive support from JICA; especially pay attention and coordinate well in implementing the Southern Nghe An Irrigation System Restoration and Upgrade Project, agreeing to extend the implementation period by 2 years for the Northern Nghe An Irrigation System Restoration and Upgrade Project. Regarding the Agricultural Market Forum, the province hopes that JICA will implement projects to build and develop agricultural value chains; and digital transformation in connecting and consuming agricultural products.
The Agricultural Market Forum is a remarkable achievement of the Technical Cooperation Project on Agricultural Development Planning in Nghe An. After its completion in March 2019, JICA continued to send experts to Nghe An to support this activity.
Up to now, the Forum hasCollect and update information of 1,500 enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups and individuals producing and processing agricultural products.
The Forum has been building value chain models such as: applying new rice varieties; using biological products in orange production meeting organic standards; growing vegetables meeting VietGAP standards.
In his response, Mr. Murooka Naomichi - Deputy Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam Office thanked Nghe An province for the warm welcome to the delegation; and expressed his appreciation for the condolences of the provincial leaders on the passing of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Appreciating the results of cooperation between JICA and Nghe An, Mr. Murooka emphasized that Nghe An is one of the provinces selected by JICA as a pilot model in its medium-term development strategy. The successful cooperation between JICA and Nghe An is clearly demonstrated in agricultural development projects.
Mr. Murooka said that in the coming time, JICA will continue to send 2 more experts to support Nghe An in developing the Agricultural Market Forum; at the same time, he expressed hope that, with the active cooperation of experts and the province, the Forum will develop quickly, widely in scale and quality.
At the meeting, JICA agricultural experts and advisors discussed a number of issues related to the Agricultural Market Forum such as: Vietnam's agricultural products have many advantages, but their potential has not been fully exploited; farmers are facing many difficulties in storing information about the production process.
Faced with that situation, experts and consultants committed to helping Nghe An farmers find solutions to the above problems in the coming time, especially in the digital transformation process, and asked the province to accompany them in this process.

At the end of the working session, the provincial leaders acknowledged and highly appreciated the contributions from the experts and consultants of the working group. In the coming time, the province is committed to accompanying the projects that JICA has sponsored and is sponsoring, to implement them in the best way, bringing practical results.
