Today, Vietnam and Laos celebrated the 60th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.

The ceremony was held in Hanoi with the participation of leaders of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly of Vietnam and Standing member of the Secretariat, Vice President of Laos Bounthong Chitmany.

On the morning of July 18, in Hanoi, the ceremony to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation between the two countries took place. This is a national event and a key activity of the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022.

At the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held talks with General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith during his visit to Vietnam in June 2021.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and Standing member of the Secretariat and Vice President of Laos Bounthong Chitmany are expected to attend the ceremony.

The 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation is considered an important milestone of the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos; an opportunity for both sides to review the heroic history of the Vietnam-Laos solidarity alliance, the sincere and consistent assistance and support between the two Parties, States and Peoples during the past struggle for independence for the two nations and in the cause of national construction, development and protection in each country today. This is also an activity that contributes to strengthening the propaganda and education of all classes of people, especially the young generation of the two countries, about the meaning and importance of the Vietnam-Laos relationship.

In 2022, the leaders of the two Parties and two States launched the Year of Solidarity and Friendship on January 8, 2022, during the official visit to Vietnam by Prime Minister Khamphan Viphavan.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Lao Prime Minister Khamphan Viphavan launched the Vietnam - Laos and Laos - Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022.

During the Year of Solidarity and Friendship, both countries organized activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (September 5, 1962 - September 5, 2022); 45th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries (July 18, 1977 - July 18, 2022). On this occasion, the leaders of the two countries visited each other and attended the Celebration Ceremony held in Hanoi and the capital Vientiane.

These two historical events have a special significance for the relationship between the two countries. Because in the world there is no relationship as special and close as the relationship between Vietnam and Laos.

This relationship was created by the sweat, effort and blood of generations of leaders, cadres, soldiers and people of the two countries who together devoted themselves to revolution, democracy, national independence and national reunification./.
