(Baonghean.vn) - After going to Laos to celebrate Tet, Bon agreed to sell drugs to a man of unknown origin. Bon received a box of instant noodles containing more than 3kg of drugs and delivered it to a customer, but was arrested. Although Bon denied the crime in court, he still could not escape the death penalty.

On August 17, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Le Van Bon (born 1989), residing in Mon Son commune, Con Cuong district, for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking”.

Bon was sentenced to 24 months in prison with a suspended sentence for “violating regulations on exploitation and protection of forests and forest products”. During the probation period, Bon committed drug trafficking.

According to the indictment, around December 2021, while going to Laos to celebrate Tet with relatives, Bon met Cong. This person told Bon that he had drugs and asked him to find a buyer.

At this time, Bon immediately remembered and contacted the man named Thang who had called to order 5 bags of heroin. Bon informed Thang that 5 bags of heroin cost 9,000 USD and asked Thang to pay him 50 million VND for the service. Thang agreed.

At 3:00 p.m. on January 16, 2022, Bon went to get a box of instant noodles containing drugs from Cong. That same night, Bon rode a motorbike to the Pha Lai dam area in Mon Son commune to wait for customers to get drugs.

When Bon was delivering drugs to a customer, he was discovered and arrested by the police. The evidence in the case was 150 packages of pink meth (weighing more than 3kg). Taking advantage of the loophole, the customer who bought the drugs escaped.

At the trial, the defendant did not admit to drug trafficking as charged in the indictment. The defendant repeatedly asserted that he was innocent.

Because Bon did not plead guilty, the court released the video recording of the defendant's testimony at the investigation agency showing that the defendant confessed to drug trafficking.

The panel of judges determined that although the defendant did not admit to drug trafficking at the trial, based on the seized evidence, the expert conclusion, the statements of the involved parties and other evidence in the file, there was sufficient basis to determine that Bon had committed the crime of drug trafficking.

With an especially large amount of drugs and a crime with the aggravating circumstance of recidivism, and no mitigating circumstances, the court sentenced defendant Le Van Bon to death.
