The longer the conflict in Ukraine lasts, the less likely it is that a diplomatic solution will be achieved.
(Baonghean.vn) - According to TASS news agency on August 22, Russia's permanent representative to the Office of the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva Gennady Gatilov said in an interview with the Financial Times that the prolonged conflict in Ukraine stemming from Western arms supplies to Kiev will seriously complicate the search for a diplomatic solution.

“The longer the conflict lasts, the more difficult it will be to find a diplomatic solution,” he pointed out, adding that he did not see “any possibility of diplomatic contacts” between the parties.
According to Mr. Gatilov, Ukraine and many Western countries are showing determination to “fight to the last Ukrainian,” and the continued military support of Kiev is evidence of that. In addition, he noted, the politicization of the United Nations has “damaged the authority of the United Nations and its organizations.”
However, according to him, the United Nations can play a more active role. In this regard, the Russian envoy mentioned the grain export agreement.
Regarding the situation around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, Mr. Gatilov criticized Ukraine’s actions as “a clear provocation.” He said: “The Russian military is just guarding, protecting the plant. Why should we shell it?”
