Russian President holds phone talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres

According to the Kremlin, on September 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone call with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss grain exports and the situation surrounding the Zaporozhie Nuclear Power Plant.

During the phone conversation, the two leaders paid special attention to the implementation of the package agreements signed in Istanbul, Türkiye, on the export of Ukrainian grain from Black Sea ports and the export of Russian food and fertilizers. Both sides stressed the importance of ensuring the food needs of countries in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America as a priority issue.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres briefed on the efforts of the Secretariat and specialized agencies of the United Nations to remove all obstacles to the supply of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to the world market, and stressed his full commitment to resolving this issue. The urgency of continuing close cooperation between Russia and relevant UN structures in the interests of ensuring global food security was confirmed.

The two leaders discussed the situation around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, including in the context of the results of the visit of the IAEA delegation on September 1. President Putin positively assessed the constructive cooperation with the IAEA and spoke about the measures taken by Russia to ensure reliable security and physical protection of the plant's facilities.

The issue of organizing a United Nations fact-finding mission in connection with the missile attack carried out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 29 July on the Yelenovka pre-trial detention centre, where Ukrainian prisoners of war are being held, was considered. UN Secretary-General António Guterres assured that active preparations are underway for the visit of United Nations experts to the site of the incident to conduct an independent and impartial investigation.

The topic of criminal activities of neo-Nazi forces in Ukraine using terrorist methods against opponents and critics of the Kiev regime was also touched upon. The two leaders agreed on further work through Russian and UN channels at various levels./.
