(Baonghean.vn) - Due to the impact of storm No. 4, Nghi Loc district experienced heavy to very heavy rain, cutting off some residential areas. Notably, in Nghi Cong Nam commune, 1 person died due to being swept away by floodwaters.

In Nghi Cong Nam commune, many roads are deeply flooded, the commune kindergarten and the medical station are nearly 1 meter deep in water, the school is currently holding a day off. Many fences of local houses have collapsed, trees have broken, hundreds of poultry have been swept away by floodwaters. The flood control road from Hamlet 9 to Nghi Cong Bac is heavily flooded and the water continues to rise. A month ago, Nghi Cong Nam people finished harvesting the summer-autumn rice, but now many households have not had time to raise the rice high enough so it is heavily flooded.

Notably, one person died in the commune. That was the case of Mr. Nguyen Van Hue, born in 1967 in Hamlet 2, Nghi Cong Nam Commune. At around 11pm yesterday (September 28), due to carelessness, Mr. Hue was swept away by the water at Khe Thi spillway. At 7:30am this morning, his body was found 1.5km from the spillway.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Chuong, a local land officer, said that this morning, district and commune leaders visited and expressed condolences to the families of victims swept away by the flood. In Nghi Loc district, the total rainfall measured from 7:00 a.m. on September 28, 2022 to 7:00 a.m. on September 29, 2022 was nearly 468 mm, causing many roads to be flooded and cut off.
Currently, most flooded traffic points have been blocked to ensure safety for people and vehicles.

Mr. Tran Nguyen Hoa - Head of the Department of Agriculture of Nghi Loc district said: Due to the impact of the flood, local households in the area were flooded, causing severe damage to crops, livestock as well as traffic and irrigation works being flooded, isolated, and seriously eroded. According to a quick statistic up to 10:00 a.m. this morning, September 29, the flood has caused more than 333 hectares of winter-spring rice, 120 hectares of corn, more than 180 hectares of vegetables, 18 hectares of peanuts to be flooded, and more than 180 hectares of aquaculture to be flooded (of which 24 hectares are shrimp farming).

Many irrigation and traffic infrastructure works were damaged: Duc Thiet road to Nghi Quang was flooded about 20cm, N5 bridge to the intersection of hamlet 8 was flooded 30cm, isolating the area of Van Son parish church in hamlet 5 (Nghi Xa commune). The newly built road of the dam in Nghi Cong Bac commune had 1/3 of the road eroded.
Road 48E, Phuong Tich bridge section - Nghi Phuong commune, the road to Nghi Kieu commune People's Committee, the road to My Hoa hamlet - Nghi My commune, the road from Nghi Lam to Nghi Kieu, Nghi My road to Nghi Cong Bac commune were flooded, the road to hamlet 6, Nghi Cong Bac commune was flooded. 12m of Nghi Thach commune health station fence collapsed. 03 electric poles were broken...
Heavy rain also sank a 24 CV boat of Mr. Nguyen Van Duc, Canh Xuan hamlet, Nghi Xuan commune.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Diep - Vice Chairman of Nghi Loc District People's Committee said: To overcome the damage caused by heavy rain, the district proactively assigned members of the Flood and Storm Prevention and Search and Rescue Committee to be in charge at assigned facilities, directing the work of overcoming the damage caused by floods, in order to soon stabilize people's lives.
The People's Committees of the communes coordinated with the District Military Command and departments and branches to organize forces and means to evacuate households in some communes at risk of flooding (Nghi My, Nghi Phuong...). The People's Committees of the communes were directed to organize checkpoints at flooded roads to guide people and vehicles to safely pass through Phuong Tich bridge and Nghi My - Nghi Cong route.
