The Russian Constitutional Court (KSRF) has recognized the treaties President Putin signed on September 30 to annex four Ukrainian provinces.

In a document published online, the KSRF recognized the annexation treaties signed by Russia with the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR), Kherson and Zaporizhia regions as "constitutional" in Russia. The regions were considered to have agreed to join Russia as soon as the treaties were signed, RIA Novosti news agency added.

After the annexation treaties are recognized as constitutional, they will be ratified by the Russian State Duma. A draft constitutional law on the recognition of the new regions will also be submitted to the Russian State Duma. The Russian State Duma is scheduled to meet on October 3-4 to discuss the annexation, after which the Russian Federation Council will consider the draft laws.

Ukraine has yet to comment on the decision of the Russian Constitutional Court.

Earlier, on September 30, President Vladimir Putin signed treaties annexing four regions of Ukraine. Western leaders said they would not recognize this issue. According to documents from the Russian Constitutional Court, within 10 days, President Vladimir Putin will appoint leaders in the newly annexed regions.
