Eduard and Zoya were reportedly planning to film another part of their documentary in Crimea when they headed to the peninsula, Mash media outlet reported. According to media reports, they were looking to visit the Livadia Palace, which was the summer residence of Tsar Nicholas II and the site of the Yalta Conference in 1945, which brought together leaders Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt.

The couple were travelling with a friend from Moscow, a judge identified as Sergey. Sergey has a house in Crimea and they planned to stay there for a month. Mash said there was a fourth person in the car - a man identified as Gleb.

The news agency said the total number of victims could be as high as five, including the driver of the truck that exploded. However, Russian authorities only announced that the bodies of a man and a woman were found at the scene, without providing further details.
