VAR will be tested in V-League in the 2023 season

Accordingly, VPF said that in order to improve the quality of the tournament and minimize unnecessary controversies about refereeing, the 2023 V-League season will apply VAR technology to some matches.

In addition, VPF also confirmed that in the 2023 season, Vietnamese professional football tournaments will switch to playing according to the European schedule instead of the current Asian schedule.

VAR technology is used in the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup in Vietnam.

“Next year, professional football tournaments will switch from the Asian season to the European season. Since this is a transition period, there will be two V-League seasons in a year. We have received approval from FIFA for the plan. In the near future, VPF, VFF and the Referee Board will coordinate to deploy the use of VAR. We will import equipment and test VAR in a number of matches. The new television copyright package will help VPF confidently deploy the plan to use VAR,” said VPF Chairman Tran Anh Tu.
