Toyota does something surprising with a series of car models
Toyota is forced to replace electronic locks with traditional key locks on some car models due to a shortage of semiconductors.
According toReuters,The Japanese car company made the decision to deliver cars to customers on time as promised. However, only one of the two smart car keys was replaced with a key lock.
"This is a temporary measure by the company while the semiconductor shortage situation is still complicated. The remaining electronic keys will be delivered to customers as soon as they are ready," said a Toyota representative.

The global shortage of semiconductors and chips that has been occurring since 2021 has caused car production to stagnate, with many customers having to pre-order and wait years to receive the car they want.
"The car company's key change will be applied to 14 Toyota models and 9 Lexus models. Toyota will temporarily provide an electronic key for vehicles manufactured in North America. We are trying to find ways to minimize the negative impact on customers" - TrangFox Business Digitalquoted a source from Toyota.
In that context, the manufacturer of Toyota and Lexus models also shared that the company may not be able to produce 9.7 million cars as originally planned.
Semiconductors are silicon chips that are essential for the control and memory functions of products ranging from cars, computers and cell phones to many other electronic items.
