(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of November 28, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Women's Union held a conference to guide the implementation of Project 8 on "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues of women and children"; training provincial and district officials according to Program 2 on developing gender mainstreaming capacity.

Project 8“Achieving gender equality and addressing urgent issues of women and children”is one of 10 projects under the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas, 2021 - 2030 period, Phase I: From 2021 - 2025.

The project aims to raise awareness, change prejudices, care for material and spiritual life, protect and care for women and children, achieve gender equality goals and focus on effectively solving some urgent problems of women and children in particularly difficult hamlets and communes, prioritizing ethnic minority women and girls from poor and near-poor households, victims of trafficking, domestic violence, sexual abuse, unsafe labor migration, returning from marriages abroad, and women with disabilities.

In Nghe An, Project 8 is implemented in 11 districts, 76 communes, 588 villages and hamlets in the following districts: Ky Son, Tuong Duong, Que Phong, Con Cuong, Quy Chau, Quy Hop, Nghia Dan, Thanh Chuong, Tan Ky, Anh Son, Quynh Luu.

In which, the pilot is in 7 communes: Nam Can (Ky Son), Yen Na (Tuong Duong), Mon Son (Con Cuong), Chau Thai (Quy Hop), Chau Hoi (Quy Chau), Tri Le (Que Phong), Ngoc Lam (Thanh Chuong).

As the agency assigned to preside over the implementation of Project 8, based on the directive documents of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union and the Provincial People's Council and People's Committee, the Provincial Women's Union has urgently developed and issued plans and guidelines for the implementation of Project 8 for the period 2021 - 2025 in the province.

In 2022, 4 key tasks have been developed. Notably, there are contents on organizing training programs for provincial, district and commune level officials according to program 2 on developing gender mainstreaming capacity; training program 3 for village and hamlet officials and prestigious people.

In addition, propaganda and mobilization to change "ways of thinking and ways of doing" contribute to eliminating prejudices and gender stereotypes in families and communities by building pioneering communication groups and teams to change in the community; Implement communication campaignsEliminate gender stereotypes and prejudices, create a safe living environment for women and children.

At the same time, build and replicate a model of changing "thinking and doing" to enhance women's economic power; promote gender equality and solve urgent problems of women and children.

Attending the conference, delegates were trained on the main contents including: Propaganda and mobilization to change "thinking and doing", contributing to eliminating gender prejudices and stereotypes in families and communities, harmful cultural practices and some urgent social issues for women and children. At the same time, building and replicating models of changing "thinking and doing" to enhance women's economic power, promote gender equality and solve urgent problems for women and children.

Along with that, ensure the voice and substantive participation of women and children in socio-economic development activities of the community, monitor and criticize, support women to participate in leadership in the political system; equip knowledge on gender equality, skills to implement gender mainstreaming for officials in the political system, village elders, village chiefs, dignitaries, religious and prestigious people in the community.
