The Russian-appointed authorities in the city of Enerhodar in southern Ukraine's Zaporizhzia region have accused Kiev of "actively spreading fake news" about Moscow's forces' imminent withdrawal from the region.
Writing on its Telegram channel on November 28, the Enerhodar administration said that the information released by Kiev officials “does not reflect the truth” and that Ukraine’s Zaporizhzia nuclear power plant, Europe’s largest, “remains under Russian control.”
CNN quoted a message from Enerhodar authorities as saying that Rosenegeatom, the state-owned company that manages all Russian nuclear power plants, had announced plans to “create a backup power supply for the Zaporizhzhia plant.” A source at Rosenegeatom said the company had taken into account “the great importance of energy reserves for the nuclear safety of the Zaporizhzhia plant, especially in winter.”
Earlier, on November 27, Petro Kotin, head of Ukraine's nuclear energy company, said that the company had received information that Russian troops might be preparing to withdraw from Zaporizhzia. Up to now, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has not provided any information to support Mr. Kotin's statement.
