In this match, coach Deschamps fielded midfielder Fofana in the starting lineup alongside Tchoumeni. Previously, the midfielder had been given an opportunity in the group stage match against Tunisia. Additionally, Konate was chosen to start in place of Upamecano, who was ill before the game. On the other side, Morocco deployed a formation of five defenders, four midfielders, and only En-Nesyri upfront. Despite being considered the underdog, Morocco showed why they were able to reach the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup.
The African representatives started confidently. They controlled the ball confidently, coordinated well, and at times even pushed France into a defensive position. But very quickly, France brought Morocco back to reality. In the 5th minute, after Mbappe's shot deflected off a Moroccan player, the ball bounced right to Theo Hernandez, and the left-back immediately finished past Bounou to open the scoring for France.

Having gained an early advantage, France found it much easier to play, while Morocco had to push forward to put significant pressure on Lloris's goal. In the 10th minute, Ounahi unleashed a difficult shot towards the far corner, but Lloris managed a diving save for France. Seven minutes later, France responded with Giroud's powerful run and quick breakaway, but his final shot hit the post.
The remainder of the first half saw both teams exchanging attacks. Before the first half ended, El Yamiq attempted a spectacular overhead kick, but unfortunately for him and the Moroccan team, the ball also hit the post.
In the second half, Morocco launched a fierce attack in an attempt to find an equalizer. However, the French defense, with the Konate-Varane partnership, played exceptionally well. When Morocco pushed forward without scoring, they paid the price. In the 79th minute, from a dribbling effort by Mbappe, his shot deflected off a Moroccan player, changing direction, and Kolo Muani immediately pounced on the rebound to double France's lead.
Ultimately, France beat Morocco 2-0 and will face Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final. Meanwhile, Morocco will play Croatia in the third-place match.
