According to historical documents, the Hoang family has been present in the Vietnamese ethnic community for thousands of years.
In Nghe An, the Hoang - Huynh lineages were formed with 6 main origins. Specifically, the first origin, with indigenous origin in Nghe An, is associated with the Hoang Ta Thon lineage in Dien Van (Dien Chau). The second, from Hung Yen province, migrated to be associated with the Hoang Ba and Hoang Nghia linesage in Nam Dan and Hung Nguyen. The third, from Quang Tri origin, is associated with the Hoang Dang lineage in Chau Nhan commune, Hung Nguyen district. The fourth, from the Mac lineage, is associated with 32 Hoang branches in Thanh Chuong, Do Luong, Anh Son, Yen Thanh, Nam Dan districts, and Vinh city. The fifth, from Giang Ha, China, is associated with the Hoang lineage in Dien Cat commune, Dien Chau district. The sixth, there are linesage that have not yet found their origins due to lost or damaged genealogies. Thus, in terms of origin, the Hoang – Huynh clans basically originated from within the country, with only a few branches from China. This shows that the indigenous character of the Hoang – Huynh clan is very large. Among them, the Hoang Ta Thon clan in Dien Chau and Yen Thanh districts has a history of more than 700 years.
According to statistics, the Hoang - Huynh clan nationwide accounts for more than 5% of the population, equivalent to 5 million people. In Nghe An, the Hoang - Huynh clan accounts for nearly 6% of the population, equivalent to more than 160,000 people, distributed in 21 districts, cities and towns of the province. In which, the areas with many distributions are Vinh city with 15,552 people; Quynh Luu district with 13,218 people; Dien Chau district with 20,976 people; Yen Thanh district with 13,181 people. Mountainous districts such as Nghia Dan with 8,314 people; Con Cuong with 1,104 people; Quy Hop with 4,905 people...
The representative son of the Hoang family in Nghe An was General Hoang Ta Thon with a resounding victory in the battle of Bach Dang in the year of Mau Ty. He was appointed by King Tran Nhan Tong as "Sat Hai Chang Lai Dai Tuong Quan" and given the title "Minh Tu" to command the navy to guard 12 seaports and protect the coastal area.
